Description

The construction of the present church began in 1750, and was completed in 1753. According to tradition, the church was built mostly of the materials of the ruined town along Ilova river called Dijanovec (Dejanovac).

The parishioners built the church with great sacrifices, so that they delivered building materials from the place of the destroyed Dijanovac from hand to hand. They placed themselves at arm's length, next to each other and thus added stone by stone and other material all the way to the construction site. The reason for this may be that Dijanovac was resting in a swampy area where cars probably could not pass.

The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is mentioned in Lukavac (Lokawecz) - today's Garešnica, in 1334 and 1501. Mentioned in 1334, the chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary is also mentioned, where later in 1466 the Church of St. Mary. The settlement of Lukavec itself was located on a stream and bordered on the same property on the other side of the stream Leskovac, which influenced the stream Garić. It seems that the just mentioned church is the forerunner of today. It was destroyed after the arrival of the Turks in this area, as were almost all the churches, especially after the fall of Garić and the migration of the population.

Due to the partially preserved inventory from the 18th century, the church was registered in 1962 as a cultural monument in the municipality of Garešnica and since 1964 it has been under the protection of the Conservation Institute.
