Medieval forge Jelengrad

The old town of Jelengrad is located on Moslavačka Hill, about 30 km northeast of Popovača. It was built on an elongated, tongue-shaped plateau laid on the east-west axis, significantly raised from the moat that surrounds it and around which earthen embankments can still be clearly seen today. The outer defensive walls of the Old Town were built in accordance with the morphology of the terrain, forming an irregular, considerably elongated rectangle of slightly broken lines. The entrance is on the east side, and was guarded by a rectangular entrance tower.

In written sources, Jelengrad was first mentioned only in 1444, but it can be assumed that it was built before that time. Furthermore, it is assumed that the Old Town was occupied by Ottoman troops in 1545, but it is not known whether they used it.
