Description

"Košutgrad" was located on the medieval estate of Moslavina. The only mention of this fort is from the list of parishes of the Zagreb diocese in 1334, when the chapel at the foot of the Košutgrad (Košućak) fort was mentioned. In 1501, the existence of a settlement under Košutgrad called Podgrađe or Varalja was recorded. Due to the scarcity of written sources, it is not possible to determine with certainty the time of origin of this settlement under Košutgrad. Shortly before 1460, in Varala, Juraj Čupor built a Franciscan monastery dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in which he planned to retire.

It is assumed that Košutgrad, like other Moslavina fortifications, was conquered by the Ottomans in the middle of the 16th century. Most likely, the fort was not interesting to them, so it has been forgotten ever since. The remains of the medieval fortress Košutgrad are in a very bad condition, so it is possible to reach the site by hiking trail from the direction of Čazma and Popovača.
