Archeological site "Bela Crkva"
Description
At the foot of the highest peak of Moslavina Hill, in the inaccessible gorge of the Kamenjača stream, there is the oldest Pauline monastery in the area of today's Croatia. The monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary (called by locals Bela Crkva) was founded in the second half of the 13th century. During the 14th and 15th centuries, Pauline monks became owners of a large number of estates through numerous grants and wills, thus providing this monastery with considerable political and economic significance. The Paulines left the monastery because of the growing danger of Ottoman attacks between 1520 and 1544.
Research and comparative conservation and restoration construction work on the Moslavina Pauline monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the most important late medieval sacral buildings in continental Croatia, has been carried out by the Croatian Restoration Institute since 2009.
This arcehological site is accesible by hiking trails from villages Podgarić, Mikleuška and Kutinica.
